Ngāmotu Pony Club Grounds and Trotting Track – conditions of use
Please read these conditions carefully before using the Ngāmotu Pony Club grounds. By using the grounds, you agree to follow these rules and any reasonable directions given by the Ngāmotu Pony Club Committee.
1. Access times
Due to racehorse training, there is no access before 10.00am Monday to Friday, 9.00am Saturday and Sunday, and 10.00am on Public Holidays.
2. Permitted areas — strictly enforced
Users may access ONLY the permitted areas. Under no circumstances may riders or vehicles enter the Course Proper, All-Weather Sand Track or Sports Pitches.
Any breach of this rule jeopardises access for everyone and will result in permission to use the grounds being immediately withdrawn, with no refund of subscription.
A $1,000 fine will also be imposed on anyone breaking this rule, or on the parent or guardian of the person responsible if they are under 18 years of age.
3. Access through The Gap
Access to the grounds is across The Gap — either through the usual gate, if unlocked, or through the 2m-high double gate in the cage area.
4. Race days and major events
Horses and riders are excluded from the grounds on race days and during major events such as Relay for Life, Americana and WOMAD. Please check the Ngāmotu Pony Club Facebook page before setting out to see what is happening at the grounds. You may be asked to leave if there is a conflict, or to wait until the grounds are available. Please check before starting your trip to avoid disappointment.
5. NPC events have priority
Pony Club rallies and events organised or sanctioned by Ngāmotu Pony Club have priority over private users. A full calendar of Pony Club events is available at Rallies and Events
6. Show-jumps and equipment
You may only use the show-jumps that are already in place. Do not use or move any other jump equipment.
7. Safety equipment
Approved helmets must be worn whenever mounted. Back protectors must also be worn when using any cross-country jumps.
8. Gates
Please ensure that all gates onto the track are securely shut when you enter and when you leave.
9. Use at your own risk
All riders and horses enter and use the grounds and trotting track at their own risk.
10. Horses must be under control
All horses must be under full control at all times.
11. Care of equipment
All equipment must be used responsibly, with the welfare of the horse or pony in mind. Equipment must not be used in a manner that is likely to cause damage.
12. Damage must be reported
Any damage must be reported to the NPC President, Rob Sullivan, on 021 270 8899. Depending on the nature of the damage, the person responsible may be liable for the cost of repair or replacement.
13. Horse manure
All horse manure from the trotting track and parking areas must be picked up and taken away with you. Manure deposited on grass areas should be spread around by kicking it out.
14. Rubbish
Please take all rubbish away with you. Leave the grounds as you found them.
15. Parking
Trucks and horse floats must be parked alongside the tin fence on the limestone access road. Please do not park vehicles or floats on the grass.
16. Riders under 18
Riders under 18 years of age must be supervised by a parent or guardian over 18 years of age.
17. Dogs
Well-behaved dogs are permitted provided they remain under voice control. If necessary, the owner or carer may be asked to remove the dog from the grounds or secure it appropriately.
18. Who may use the grounds
Only Sub-Holders, named family members, and an occasional friend upon payment of the applicable fee are permitted to ride on the grounds under the subscription. A breach of this condition may result in cancellation of access with no refund of the remaining subscription.
