Membership

Membership subscriptions for the 2026/2027 season to be announced

Adult & senior members are able to vote at the AGM.  A junior rider is not entitled to vote at the AGM.  Junior rider membership includes membership for one parent/caregiver who is then entitled to vote at the AGM.  If additional parents/caregivers would like to vote or their children are senior riders, the adult/caregiver will be required to join as an adult member.

* Unmounted members must join as a riding member after 3 free rallies.

All subs are requested on registration.  The last date for payment for the season is 30 September 2026.  Your rallies won’t start counting until subs are paid (NZPCA rules).

Our club relies on fundraising events throughout the season.  All members are asked to participate in at least one fundraising event for the season.

Payments can be made by bank transfer to:

Registration for first time Riders

New members that join for the very first time are eligible for a starters pack from NZPCA.  Please let our secretary or Head Coach know if you are a new (first time) member so we can provide you with a pack.

 Uniform

Pony Club uniform is compulsory for all rallies except twilight rallies where members can wear mufti provided they have the correct helmet, long sleeves and jodhpurs.

New members are expected to have the correct uniform after the first few rallies. The uniform consists of a helmet (with an approved, current safety rating), black or brown leather boots (short or long), light-coloured jodhpurs, a long sleeved white blouse with a top button (no short sleeves allowed), forest green vest, and a green tie with a Pony Club pin. You can order these from the secretary.

We have introduced a more modern uniform in recent years which has a lightweight fabric in our colours of white and green.  With this shirt you do not need to wear a vest.  You must still ensure your Pony Club pin is pinned to the chest area of this uniform.  You can order this shirt through Pony Club.

You can purchase or order most of the above items at different shops in town:

The Warehouse (white school shirts and forest green sweatshirts, vests or jerseys).  The Tack Shack at Moturoa Shopping Centre (boots, jodhpurs, ties and helmets and everything else you want for yourself and your equine friends) as well as Saddlery Warehouse at Hurlstone Drive.

Rallies

The rally schedule will be sent out by e-mail and on our website once it has been set for the new season. If you are not on e-mail, please pick up a copy at registration day or the opening rally. You will also find the Area Calender which contains all the horse events for the season on it.

There will be extra copies on the notice board if you are joining after these days.

Rallies start at various times but the first half hour is unmounted for setting up (everyone expected). The unmounted start to the rally is when all messages and important info is read out. You need to consult your Rally Schedule each time for actual start times.  The group that is using the equipment last is to pack that area away.

Inspections

Yes everybody will be inspected at every Rally (except the Twilight Rallies ).

Inspection is in 3 parts:

  • Rider Inspection: Uniform – this includes a whip, gloves and hairnet (unless you have short hair).
  • Pony/Horse Inspection: How clean and well-conditioned is your pony/horse? (Includes feet/shoes, body condition, grooming etc)
  • Gear Inspection: How clean is your gear, and does it fit well? (Includes saddle fit, condition of leather, checking stitching, clean bits etc)

Altogether you can earn 20 points. These points will be totalled at the end of the season and for every group (Junior, Intermediate and Senior) there is a trophy for the rider with the highest total.

When coming unmounted you will still be able to get part of the points based on your uniform. Unmounted rallies will count towards most competition/trials you want to do, but some require you to have attended on the competition horse for at least 3 Rallies.
